You feel as though you have been here before. You are lost. The winding, cyclical stairs are a metaphor but they also exist, extending in both directions. This is the place where lost people come. The light at the top serves as a beacon. It is one of attraction and repulsion. It’s a complex symbol that you struggle to parse.
Is this place here to draw you in, like a moth to a flame? Is it a lantern which should be approached, a marker to suggest safe passage? What happens to the moths that are drawn to the flame? Their wings turn to cinder and they spiral from the air. Or is it a warning? A pulsing siren of light that shows where the danger lies. The stripes of a wasp? A moth or a wasp?
The stairs are real and you are really there. Have you been here before?
